Ohio State football spring transfer tracker 2024: Latest portal news, roster updates

College football’s spring transfer window has closed.

The deadline for players across the Division I subdivisions to file paperwork submitting a notification to transfer was Tuesday.

Ohio State ended up with six players in the NCAA transfer portal over the period of two weeks.

It was a fraction of the total entrants from a busy winter window that resulted in 19 players leaving the program over December and January.

Though the portal doors are shut for the next seven months, those who are already in the online database can still enroll at another school and be immediately eligible this year.

That leaves open the possibility of a little more activity. Ohio State could dip into the portal to supplement to its roster.

To sort out the departures and any potential additions for the Buckeyes, The Dispatch is keeping an updated list below.

Ohio State players entering the portal (6)

WR Kyion Grayes

In the hours before the deadline to submit paperwork to enter the portal in April, Grayes appeared in the online database. The second-highest ranked receiver in Ohio State's 2022 recruiting class, he did not play a snap for the Buckeyes last fall after catching a pass for 2 yards as a freshman the previous year.

LB Nigal Glover

Glover, who transferred to Ohio State from Northwestern last summer in the aftermath of the Wildcats' hazing scandal, was back in the portal on Tuesday afternoon after a year with the Buckeyes. He did not appear in a game as a freshman last fall.

After five seasons with the Buckeyes, Vimahi on Tuesday entered the portal for his final season of eligibility. He had twice filled in to start at right guard over the last two years, including in the Cotton Bowl against Missouri, but did not appear to be in the mix in spring practice to replace Matt Jones as the starter.

S Ja'Had Carter

Mar 7, 2024; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes safety Ja'Had Carter (3) talks to safety Caleb Downs (2) during spring football practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

The Buckeyes went 11 days without anyone entering the portal until Carter put his name in the online database on Sunday. A backup safety with a year of eligibility left, Carter spent a little over a year at Ohio State after he transferred from Syracuse.

S Cedrick Hawkins Jr.

After redshirting in his lone season with the Buckeyes, Hawkins entered the portal on April 16 and committed to transfer to Central Florida four days later in a move back to his home state. He is a native of Titusville, Florida.

RB Dallan Hayden

Mar 5, 2024; Columbus, OH, USA; Ohio State Buckeyes running back Dallan Hayden (5) runs during the first spring practice at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

A redshirt sophomore who was set to back up TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins in the upcoming season, Hayden put his name in the portal as soon it reopened. Hayden had not been seen during the last week of spring practice, and confirmed his departure on April 15 in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "Wearing Scarlet & Gray has been one of the great honors of my life," Hayden wrote. "The decision to enter the transfer portal was not easy." On April 22, he committed to transfer to Colorado.

Players in the portal headed to Ohio State (0)

None of the players to put their names in the portal since January have committed to the Buckeyes.
